Earth Ponies are the ponies that most closely resemble real-life horses. They don't have horns or wings and were often sold in sets titled just "My Little Pony." The term "Earth Pony" was later coined in the collecting community to describe them.

Spike calls Baby Lickety-Split an "Earthling" when comparing her to the pegasus ponies in My Little Pony: The Movie (1986):

"But they're Pegasus Ponies! You're just an Earthling. You can't fly!" – Spike

Though they can't fly or perform magic, the Earth Ponies each have their own talents, such as Sundance, who's a great jumper, and Cupcake, who's an excellent baker.
