For years, collectors have been requesting that someone make us a Convention Exclusive collector's pony using a G1 pose, or similar to a G1 style. This unfortunately never came to be; the answer that many of us were given by Hasbro representatives who attended our My Little Pony Fair was that they no longer held copyright to the G1 molds, and therefore were unable to create a reproduction.

Fan-Made Reproductions: Ponies

For years, collectors have been requesting that someone make us an Exclusive collector's pony using a G1 pose, or similar to a G1 style. This unfortunately never came to be; the answer that many of us were given by Hasbro representatives who attended our My Little Pony Fair was that they no longer held copyright to the G1 molds, and therefore were unable to create a reproduction.

Beginning in 2016, elite members of the collector's community began a project to produce Fan Made Reproductions. These were funded by pre-sales and crowdsourcing funds throughout the community. Working with a factory overseas, the first of these ponies reached the mainstream collector audience in September of 2016. Fan Made Reproductions are not licensed by a manufacturer, much like mass produced fakies, and use completely unique fan-created characters that resemble the style of G1 ponies. They are not official ponies and are instead considered high-quality customs.

In response to the years of requests of an exclusive, the first pony from this project is Genie: Wishes DO Come True.

Genie is the first custom in the Wishes DO Come True series, an unlicensed high quality custom reproduction of a G1 style pony. Her body color and hair color are completely unique to this pony alone. She is similar to the G1 Gusty Pose, but her hoof stamp says "Custom 2016, Hong Kong." Since This pony was put together partially in factory and partially by a group of volunteer collectors, her mane was mechanically rooted but her tail hole was drilled and a tail was inserted by hand. Due to this, her tail is not held in with the same method as licensed ponies; there is no tail washer but instead a cable tie/zip tie.

From original talks, drawings, pose creation and finally factory samples, the process to create Genie took over two years.

Back Card Stories

Genie was designed to have our childhood pony wishes come true. The stars represent wishing in hope for a G1 style to return, the hearts represent the collector community's mutual love for ponies, and the horseshoes represent the ponies themselves. The lamp ties it all in together, representing a Genie granting our 25 years long wish for G1 style ponies to come back! (writing credit to Clipper and ABC).
