Generation 5 toys and merchandise began sales in August 2021 to promote the premiere of the ''My Little Pony: A New Generation'' movie on [https://www.netflix.com/title/81424207 Netflix]. ''ANG'' picks up many years after ''Friendship Is Magic'' with a new cast of characters and many references to ''FIM''. In this new world, the time of [[Twilight Sparkle]] and the rest of the [[Mane 6]] is considered myth, and the Earth Ponies, Pegasus Ponies, and Unicorns all live separately throughout an Equestria void of magic with many preconceptions and prejudices about each other.

The new main cast, dubbed the Mane 5 by Hasbro, consists of Earth Ponies [[Sunny Starscout]] and [[Hitch Trailblazer]], Pegasus Ponies [[Pipp Petals]] and [[Zipp Storm]], and Unicorn [[Izzy Moonbow]]. Later the group becomes the new Mane 6 with the addition of Unicorn [[Misty Brightdawn]]. Together, they set out to restore the balance of magic to their land through friendship and cooperation between pony races.

Much like G1, ''ANG'' is followed by an animated series on [https://www.netflix.com/title/81443471 Netflix] called ''[[My Little Pony: Make Your Mark]]'' and a supplementary short-form series on [https://www.youtube.com/@MLPTYTEnglish YouTube] called ''[[My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale]]''.

Standard G5 ponies are similar in size to G4 ponies and have similar facial features, with slender bodies and feathered hooves similar to G2 ponies. Many have articulated limbs and wings and plastic manes and tails, unlike the brushable manes and tails of their predecessors.

G5's future is uncertain, with limited presence and only one new product shown at the [https://www.equestriadaily.com/2025/03/toy-fair-2025-was-pile-of-mixed.html 2025 NY Toy Fair]. Hasbro has previously implied that it is focusing on retro merchandising, seemingly jumping on the nostalgia bandwagon of other 1980s toys lines like Care Bears, Strawberry Shortcake, and Rainbow Brite. However, the generation is still receiving support in other countries such as China, where the company [[Dinosaw]] continues to release new merch and toys and events like the [[Ponyverse Festival]] heavily feature G5.
