Synopsis

Misty struggles to make a family trip the perfect family trip.

Plot

Misty, Pipp, Zipp, and their parents end up crashing their raft over a waterfall. Once everyone is back on land, they see Misty sadly going over to her tent.

Zipp and Pipp follow, and see Misty looking back over her photos and videos on her laptop. She wanted a nice family vacation, but inevitably, one unfortunate thing after another happened. Pipp and Zipp try to encourage her, and Misty brings up one video of them having a nice campfire, right before it turns out that she used cracklewood for the smore sticks, resulting in fireworks erupting all over camp. She brings up another video of them finding rainbow colored frogs, right before a mega large one popped up and sent them fleeing into the mud. And lastly, she brings up a video of the rafting trip that started the episode.

Pipp and Zipp get an idea after that to make a home movie out of the videos for them all to watch that night, their last night of the trip, and they edit the videos to focus on their family togetherness. They hug and their cutie mark magic creates beautiful sparkles in the sky.

The camera then zooms out to show that they recorded that last night camping as well, and that Misty is happily watching that footage back.

Trivia and Errors

Trivia

• The title is a play on "a swing and a miss," where someone tries but fails at something, like how a baseball player can swing at the ball but miss.
• G4 also had an episode about some of the Mane 6 that turned out to be potentially related, going on a family trip that even involved riding a raft going over a waterfall, in Pinkie Apple Pie. With Pinkie Pie being the one new to the family taking pictures the whole time, just like Misty being the newer one here and recording the trip. Except there the Apple family is stressed out and Pinkie Pie is having a blast.
