Note: this example article is based heavily on the one from the TF Wiki

If the character's exact name is used across generations, put G# at the beginning of the article's name, e.g. G4 Rainbow Dash.
If there are multiple versions of a character within the generation, the descriptor should be placed in parentheses after the character's name, e.g. Twilight (so soft).

If there are multiple instances of the same name, use the {{disambig-two}} or {{disambig-multiple}} templates, whichever is more fitting
This article is about Generation 3 Island Rainbow. For Generation 4 Island Rainbow, see G4 Island Rainbow

A few characters may require a note or disclaimer at the beginning of the article, for example an explanation about the character's name, e.g. Cozy Heart, or about the character's gender/pronouns, e.g. Arpeggia.
Note: This is a note about the character
Insert an image that best represents the character. For early generations this image may be a toy, and for later generations this may be animation or media, unless one type of image is more representative than the other.
For characters with only a couple toy and/or merch releases and no media releases, this image may be skipped.

[Release/set name] [Name] (for toys, e.g. Styling Rainbow Dash)
[Name] in [media name] (for media, e.g. Teddy in My Little Pony Tales)

The character's name, generation, species and whatever year they were first seen, whether that be in media or in merchandise, whichever was earliest. The species should be linked to, e.g. [[:Category:G3 Pegasus Ponies|pegasus]]. The year name shoudl also be listed and linked to, eg [[Year One (1997)]].

[Name] is a G# [earth pony/dragon/bushwooly/whatever] first introduced in [year].

A general description, in present tense, of the character's personality and/or toy releases, whatever is most applicable. Multiple paragraphs may be used.
For ponies with several different personalities or general overviews, such as G1 Shady who is different in MLP 'n Friends vs the UK comics, the personality section should be skipped here and gone over in more detail in the Media section.
Keep toy descriptions general, you can go into more detail in the Releases section.
If there is any information that is particularly notable or important and would not fit better in a different section, it may go here.

[Name] is a cheerful but shy toy-exclusive pony who works at the weather factory. They have been released several times in various countries as a So Soft pony, a Twinkle Eyed pony and a Twice as Fancy pony.

If a character has different names in different languages, they should be noted. If a character's name is exactly the same in all languages, this section can be skipped.
Names
English: [Name]
Italian: [Name]
Portuguese (Brazil): [Name] and [Name 2]

A gallery of the character's main line brushables or equivalent releases. Should be skipped when a character has fewer than five or more than fifteen releases. Links to set and/or pose can be used, whatever is relevant. Poses can be skipped for G5 ponies for now.

This section pertains to everything from books to comics to commercials to cartoons. If a character has literally no appearances outside of their toys/merch, this section can be skipped.

Media Appearances

If the character's intro section image was from a media appearance and they have no other media appearance designs, no more images are necessary for this section. If a character has multiple appearances/designs, they should be placed here with descriptors explaining where they are from. If there are more than three images here, they should be moved to a gallery (see below). If images are particularly tall, they can be shrunk using the |upright=#| file tag where the number is between 0.00 and 1.00, representing a percentage of the original size.

Explanations of a pony's media colors. Each sections header should describe what kind of media the design is from and the name of the media if applicable. Specifications and multiple sections are only necessary if designs differ enough from each other, otherwise just one section with a general header like Animated Pony Stats or even just Pony Stats will suffice.
The Hoof Colour, Horn Colour and Wing Colour sections should only be used for generations where they are regularly different from the body colour, e.g. G2 and G5, or if otherwise applicable to the pony, e.g. G4 Princess Cadence who has gradient wings or G1 Valentine's friend who has coloured hooves.
Cutie Mark MUST be used for G3+ characters, Symbol can be used for pre-G3 characters.
If a character is not a pony, this section can either be modified to fit their species or skipped entirely in favor of a written description.

Descriptions of a character's media appearances, as applicable. They should be written in past tense and the first time anything with its own page is mentioned, it should be linked to.
For character with many MANY media appearances, such as G4 Twilight Sparkle, this section can be condensed to be more brief, but for character with fewer appearances, every appearance should be described in more detail.

[Name] made their first appearance in the 1923 comic issue Revenge of the Winged Unicorn Pegacorn Unisus Alicorns. They were a friendly but shy pony who struggled with self-esteem and loved making pizza, eventually learning how to use that ability to defeat their foes. They sucessfully saved the world from the evil Queen Dark Evil Heart Star and restored light to the land of Ponyquestria.

In the next issue, Revenge of the Revenge of the Winged Unicorn Pegacorn Unisus Alicorns, Queen Dark Evil Heart Star returns and [Name] uses their newfound confidence to summon an army of pizza-wielding ponies to defeat her much more easily than before.

They made a brief cameo appearance in the 2055 chapter book Bedtime Stories for Unruly Children, watching over the town of Dreamville as they slept to keep them safe from the nightmare monsters.

[Name] was one of the characters featured in the animated commercial for the Easy Bake set of G15 pony toys, where they had black hooves rather than their usual white.

In the Australian-exclusive picture books, [Name] was very different. They worked in a corporate office rather than the weather factory, and were noticably meaner to the other ponies than in other incarnations.
