Generation 5 toys and merchandise began sales in August 2021 to promote the premiere of the My Little Pony: A New Generation movie on Netflix. ANG picks up many years after Friendship Is Magic with a new cast of characters and many references to FIM. In this new world, the time of Twilight Sparkle and the rest of the Mane 6 is considered myth, and the Earth Ponies, Pegasus Ponies, and Unicorns all live separately throughout an Equestria void of magic with many preconceptions and prejudices about each other.
The new main cast, dubbed the Mane 5 by Hasbro, consists of Earth Ponies Sunny Starscout and Hitch Trailblazer, Pegasus Ponies Pipp Petals and Zipp Storm, and Unicorn Izzy Moonbow. Together, the five friends set out to restore the balance of magic to their land through friendship and cooperation between pony races.
