Rainbow Dash in My Little Pony: A New Generation

G5 Rainbow Dash is a G5 My Little Pony first introduced in 2021.

Many moons ago, the pegasus Rainbow Dash was a Guardian of Friendship who represented the element of Loyalty. Once a shining symbol of a united Equestria, now she is nothing but a legend whose story is passed down by the few that believe in it.

Unliked most examples of reused names in My Little Pony, G5 Rainbow Dash is intended in-universe to be the same character as G4 Rainbow Dash.

Rainbow Dash is a historical figure and the same Rainbow Dash from G4 that lived in Equestria many moons before G5's story began. Sunny Starscout's father, Argyle Starshine, told her stories of Rainbow Dash and the other Mane 6 when she was a filly, and they were some of the only ponies who believed in her existence before the end of My Little Pony: A New Generation. Rainbow Dash makes a cameo appearance at the beginning of A New Generation as a imaginary character in the game Sunny, Hitch Trailblazer and Sprout Cloverleaf play as foals. Sunny has a wooden toy of Rainbow Dash made by her father. Rainbow Dash's Cutie Mark appears on Argyle's map of ancient Equestria, and Sunny has a poster of Rainbow Dash's Cutie Mark in her room.

She appears in a flashback story told by Discord in the IDW comics using her design from The Last Problem. A prerecorded message from Rainbow Dash appears in the IDW comics The Storm of Zephyr Heights Issue #2 and The Storm of Zephyr Heights Issue #3 where she talks about her life as a Wonderbolt and her feelings on losing magic and flight, also mentioning that she spent much of her later life at Sweet Apple Acres.

In the My Little Pony: Tell Your Tale episode Misty-rious New Room, a stained glass window of the G4 Mane 6, including Rainbow Dash, defeating Nightmare Moon can be seen.

A Rainbow Dash plush carnival prize can be seen in the background at the Boardtrot in the Tell Your Tale episode Emotional Rollercoaster.

She was released as part of an Amazon-exclusive set to celebrate the different generations of My Little Pony, or three of them, at least. Izzy Moonbow and Sunny Starscout represent G5, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Twilight Sparkle represent G4, and Minty represents G3.

Year Five (2025)

8-inch Brushable

First shown off at the 2025 NY Toy Fair, this Walmart-exclusive 8-inch Rainbow Dash is the only Hasbro-made G5 pony in 2025 so far. She has brushable hair and no articulation aside from being able to turn her head side to side. The art on her box is a mishmash of existing G5 renders edited to look like Rainbow Dash. She comes carded with a yellow comb.

This Rainbow Dash uses the same mold and matches the style of Mega Movie Friends Sunny Starscout, Pipp Petals and Izzy Moonbow, but is not referred to as a Mega Movie Friends pony by online retailers.
