Sunset Shimmer is a G4 Unicorn Pony. She serves as the primary antagonist of the theatrical movie, My Little Pony: Equestria Girls.

Sunset Shimmer was once a student of Princess Celestia, who began studying just before Twilight Sparkle did. Sunset was extremely talented at magic, but was also extremely arrogant and refused friendship. However, her arrogance and desire for power led Celestia to expel Sunset; angered, Sunset traveled to the human world through the mirror portal where she became a bully at the local high school.

Sunset serves as the primary antagonist of the first Equestria Girls film, making plans to take the Element of Magic and use its power to take over Equestria. The Element's power transforms her into a demon, as she cannot control its power. She was defeated when Twilight was able to use the Element's power against her.

In Rainbow Rocks, Sunset Shimmer is shown to have been making amends for her earlier actions. While she is friends with the human versions of Twilight's friends, the rest of the school despises her.
