Spike is the same character as the baby dragon who was [[Twilight Sparkle]]'s assistant, friend and advisor in G4. G5 Dragon Lord Spike the dragon is a media-exclusive character and the leader of the dragons on the Isle of Scaly. Older than almost any other creature alive, he remembers the ancient Equestria led by Twilight Sparkle and her friends.
Unliked most examples of reused names in My Little Pony, G5 Spike is intended in-universe to be the same character as G4 Spike.

His dragon fire has the magic of teleportation. Unlike the other G5 dragons, he doesn't have a Cutie Mark.
