Dr. Hooves is a background pony, mainly used to fill scenes and for short appearances. He has a speaking appearance in Call of the Cutie, where he is manipulated by Apple Bloom into purchasing apples. According to his trading card, he is Ponyville's official timekeeper, and is seen performing this duty in the episode The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000.
Like most background ponies, Dr. Hooves was unnamed originally. His name was given by fans due to his hourglass cutie mark and percieved likeness to David Tennant, who portrayed the Tenth Doctor on Doctor Who.
