Discord

Discord is a G4 Character, who appeared as a villain on the TV show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Media Appearances

Discord first appears in The Return of Harmony: Part 1 and Part 2. He is stated to be a draconequus, and has a body that is a combination of different creatures. He is presented as a spirit of chaos and disharmony, and has the ability to effectively alter reality, which he uses to spread his chaos. He is prone to overconfidence and arrogance, while also being a mischievous trickster.

Discord ruled Equestria approximately 1000 years before the show's setting, and was said to make the lives of ponies horrible. He would be overthrown by Princess Celestia and Princess Luna, who used the Elements of Harmony to turn him into stone. Celestia and Luna then became co-rulers of Equestria. During the show's time period, he is accidentally released through a combination of an argument between Applebloom and her friends, and the fact that Celestia and Luna are no longer connected to the Elements of Harmony, which weakened his prison. He shows a malevolent and chaotic personality, managing to temporarily corrupt Twilight Sparkle and her friends to prevent them from defeating him with the Elements of Harmony. After realizing how powerful their friendship is and seeing through his manipulation, the group manages to reimprison him.

Discord reappeared in the episode Keep Calm and Flutter On, where the Mane Six are tasked with reforming him. During this time, Discord plots to assure that he is never reimprisoned, by destroying all the copies of the reforming spell Twilight intended to use and manipulating Fluttershy into promising never to use her element. However, he eventually reforms willingly, due to Fluttershy's genuine kindness and offers of friendship, as Discord had never had friends.

Discord later appears in the Season 3 premiere, Princess Twilight Sparkle: Part 1 and Princess Twilight Sparkle: Part 2. He is accused of being the cause behind the invading Everfree Forest, but denies it. During the episode, a flashback is shown of his defeat at Luna and Celestia's hands. It is later revealed that the Everfree Forest had been corrupted by Discord's Plunder Seeds, which Discord had intended to use to defeat Luna and Celestia after his capture; however, the seeds took much longer to grow than he anticipated. Discord would later claim that he neglected to mention this to allow Twilight to learn a lesson about being a princess.
