However in Europe the figurines are packaged in 'blind bags.' Blind as in you can't see what pony you are getting until you open her up, but collecters soon found that each bag had a number stamped on it indicating which pony was in each bag negating the randomness of in-person purchasing (where as buying online can still be quite random).
