Nirvana ponies are pony variants with very limited distribution. (Variants on the ponies sold in North America.)

These ponies are exclusive to certain countries because they were either only made in that country or they were only sold in that country (and made in China or Hong Kong for instance).

Ponies are listed here under their respective country. You can click on the country name for more general characteristics of ponies and extra info on country´s pony production.

Ponies with subtle variations can sometimes be identified by their hoof markings, ie MACAU, SPAIN, ITALY etc.

Ponies were exported to neighboring countries, so a MIB pony in a German language package may not be a German nirvana pony. You have to check on the package where the pony is made, or somehow get a look at the pony's hooves.

Argentina

Argentina[1]
  • Argentinian Ponies are ponies made in Argentina. They were sold in Argentina and neighboring countries,
  • Baby Ponies and Winger Ponies can usually be identified by their hooves, stamped "MADE IN ARGENTINA".

  • Adult Ponies are less clearly marked are Argentina made, they often have two digit date stamps on their hooves
  • They are special because the Argentinian line of ponies is the most varied and colorful!
  • Also Baby versions of adult ponies that were not released in the US and Europe were made in Argentina, such as Baby Sparkler.

Italy

Italy

Italian ponies are those made in Italy and stamped ITALY on their hooves. They were sold in Italy and other European countries, therefore the language on the packaging varies. Rare Italian ponies are the pink, blue, and yellow cotton candies made by Furga. These do not have ITALY on the hooves.

India

India

In India, only the first six collector ponies were sold. The ponies were made in India, and clearly marked as such. They were made through Playskool, so the hooves are marked Funskool rather than Hasbro. India-cotton-candy-hooves.jpg

Macau

Macau

Macau ponies were made in and marked Macau, they were not sold there. (Macau is in China, somewhat similar to Hong Kong.) Only the first six ponies and Lemon Drop were made. These ponies were mostly sold in Germany, and other European countries. Macau ponies are known for a few unique color combinations. Most notably Jenny,a brown and white version of Peachy. [6] [7]

Mexico

Mexico

Mexican ponies were made and sold in Mexico. Initially the ponies were licensed to/made by a company called Lily Ledy, such ponies have clear hoof marks that say "Lily Ledy" and "Made in Mexico". This company made only the first six ponies, but then their factory burnt down and Hasbro then gave the license to a company called Auriken (who also made versions of the first six).

  • Lily Ledy versions of the first six are more rare than Auriken ones.
  • Auriken ponies have no marks on their hooves, their hooves are either completely flat or concave.
  • Because of the different factories the first six ponies made in Mexico are sometimes not even referred to as Mexican, but in reference to their production company. Ie "Lily Ledy Minty" or "Auriken FF Butterscotch" (aka "Mexican FF Butterscotch"), whereas later ones are just "Mexican Firefly". Any non- first six Mexican pony is also an Auriken pony, so calling it "Mexican" is enough.

The variations in printing, type of plastic used, and slight mold variations help identify the completely unmarked Auriken ponies. (Not to mention the place that you found that pony is a good hint, but with eBay these days a pony's true origin can be tricky.) [8]

Spain

Spain

In Spain, mi pequeno pony was first introduced by manufacturers Brekar and Milton Bradley under Hasbro licensing. These ponies have a piggy pose and the hooves are not marked. They have blinking eyes like the US Beddy-Bye-Eyed baby ponies. They are referred to as Spanish Piggy ponies and are rare and valuable.

After the piggy ponies, regular Spanish ponies were made and sold in Spain. Some have hooves marked Spain, and some do not. Spanish ponies have been found in other countries, though it is unclear if these were actually sold in another country or whether people bought them while on vacation in Spain and brought them home to their respective home countries. Many variations and types were made.
