US Backcard Story

G1 Sniffles and Snookums' US Backcard

Early one morning, a double Rainbow glistened in the sky to announce the arrival of the newborn twin ponies, Sniffles and Snookums!

Sniffles and Snookums love winter! Eagerly, they watch as the white flakes cover the hills and ice sparkles on the pond. "Let's go ice skating!" exclaims Sniffles. "And go sledding, too!" adds Snookums. They slip on the pretty mittens that their Mama knitted for them to keep their little hands warm in the winter cold.

Newborn twins like to laugh and play in their very special way ... and they're twice the fun for everyone!

Sniffles and Snookums appear in two episodes of the My Little Pony and Friends TV series, "Ice Cream Wars" and "The Prince and the Ponies", in which they are portrayed as Earth Ponies. They're know as Baby Sniffles and Baby Snookums.

They are also characters in the UK comic books. Their origin is rather odd. Baby Tiddly Winks drew a tiny pegasus and a tiny unicorn on a sheet of paper. Baby Lucky then found the paper and traced the pictures, making a total of two pegasi and two unicorns. Gusty drew a bassinet and stroller for them. When Baby Lucky wished the two sets of twins were real, and they promptly climbed into their accessories and popped off the page.

In true pony style, everyone took this in stride and simply moved them into the Lullabye Nursery. Baby Lucky named the pegasi Dibbles and Nibbles and the unicorns Sniffles and Snookums. He further explained that he had called the lilac unicorn Sniffles because Sniffles is "a boy's name." (Newborn Sniffles is a boy in the UK.)

The comic also gave Sniffles and Snookums (and the other two) a specific birthday: June 13th.

Sniffles was an energetic baby who was always trying to push his sister out of their stroller, but Snookums retaliated by using her magic to make him sneeze. Gusty cared for them and the other twins as their nurse, nicknaming them "the Funny Four". While the "regular" baby ponies like Baby Glory and Baby Blossom acted and talked like elementary age children, the newborns twins were like toddlers. The older babies sometimes babysat them.
