Year Two brought a variety of new pony friends to the line with more color and new poses. Consumers were introduced to the first unicorns, pegasus ponies, sea ponies, and the very first baby pony. Year Two also presented the first My Little Pony playsets. The introduction of the Rainbow Ponies established the set release model of two earth ponies, two unicorns, and two pegasus ponies that the line would follow for a few years.

My Little Pony (Earth Ponies)
There are six Earth Ponies in this set, with Blossom and Cotton Candy being rereleased from the previous year.

Unicorn and Pegasus Ponies
The Year Two pegasus ponies and unicorns were sold in the same assortment, and there are two pegasus ponies and four unicorns in the set.

Rainbow Ponies
There are six brand new characters in the assortment – two earth ponies, two pegasus ponies, and two unicorns.
Sea Ponies
Sea Ponies: US
The first set of Sea Ponies is made up of three characters.
Sea Ponies: UK
The UK's Sea Ponies are three entirely different characters. Only UK Wavebreaker and US Wavedancer bear a resemblance to one another.
Playset Ponies
There were four playsets released in Year Two. Two of the year's playset ponies are earth ponies. One pony is a pegasus pony, and the other is a unicorn.
Peachy, who is included with the Pretty Parlor has a few variants – Flat-Foot, Concave-Foot (Two Stamps), and Concave-Foot (Four Stamps).

Mail Order Ponies
Mail order ponies were sold by order form included with other ponies sold in stores. Consumers purchased them with a combination of horseshoe points clipped from their store-purchased ponies' packages and a check or money order.
Ember, My Beautiful Baby Pony
Ember is both the first mail order pony and the first baby pony. She was available in three colors and bears no symbol.
